About

WHO WE ARE

We are a non-profit, student run music society from the University of Warwick, based in the West Midlands. All our members are students and staff at the university, and play with the band alongside their academic studies. Our music is of an exceptional standard – historically we have taken part in the National Concert Band Festival, and in 2022 we achieved the gold award for our performance.

WHAT WE DO

The band performs to a wide audience, from private functions (such as weddings, corporate functions and university balls) to international jazz festivals, and our own highly popular concerts on campus. Be it big band swing, jazz, blues, latin, funk or pop, we aim to accommodate a wide range of styles suitable for various musical occasions. We also run a smaller band, with anywhere from 3 to 12 members, covering other styles. The small band repertoire focuses on classic jazz standards and function tunes which are perfect for private events.

WHERE WE PERFORM

We regularly perform at multiple venues across the local area, such as our annual performances at Bulkington Beer Festival, Real Ale, and once a term gigs at the Dirty Duck.
In addition to local events, we have domestic tours in terms 1 and 2, performing with other university big bands and bringing our music to other cities throughout the country. Our recent domestic tour locations include Bath, Nottingham, Cardiff, and Liverpool.

OUR ETHOS

We strive to produce a fun and welcoming atmosphere for all our members, and welcome anyone who would like to join a rehearsal. We offer numerous performance opportunities to all our players, regardless of ability or background, and encourage everyone to take part. Whether you want somewhere to play music with friends, or you’re a jazz musician looking to enjoy our Small Band, Big Band has a place for you!
